Writing Focus: Constructed Response: Which figure of speech was the most important word choice the author made? Why? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.
A figure of speech that was the most important word choice the author made was, when he said "He wore his happiness like a mask". This figure of speech means that Montag showed people he was happy, but deep inside he wasn't. The author compared his happiness to a mask because a mask you put on to show to people, and hide whats behind it. That was similar to what Montag did, he made everyone think he was happy and never showed them how he really was feeling.
I think the most important figure of speech the author made was "You could feel the war getting ready in the sky that night." I think this is it because Montag constantly talks about how there's war going on and it's starting to take a toll on him. The word chose the author used made the sentence more intense and gave it personification when he says "you could feel the war getting ready". He also mentions the war when Mildred's friends are over which leads to many more events.
A figure of speech that was most important was that "He wore his happiness like a mask." The reason why it's the most important word choice that he made is because it described Montag and how he was feeling and acting around Mildred and others. When Clarisse made him think about was he really happy, it made him think back that he really wasn't and he has been wearing a mask of happiness the whole entire time and would have to come to reality of it and reality of that he wasn't happy. The mask was to cover the truth of him not being happy.
